Minimal Risk Research:

If the proposed research involves no greater than minimal risk to the child, then CRP may approve it. Minimal risk means that the risks of harm anticipated in the proposed research are not greater, considering probability and magnitude, than those ordinarily encountered in daily life or during the performance of routine physical or psychological examinations or test. Besides meeting this test, the project must satisfy CRP that adequate provisions have been made for soliciting the assent of the child and the permission of their parents or guardians.

Minimal risk research includes the categories of research exempt from review noted above. In addition, such research usually includes common survey and interview techniques. The categories of research eligible for expedited review that do not limit participation to subjects at lear 18 years old also normally present only minimal risk to child subjects.
